Area Information

Find Your Home in Greenfield, IN

Greenfield is a perfect blend of history and charm, providing its residents with a cozy and peaceful country-like setting while offering plenty of retail centers, medical and wellness facilities, parks, and employment opportunities. And the best part? It's located near major roadways like I-70, US 40, and SR 9, making it easy to get around.

Greenfield has been voted as one of the safest cities to live in Indiana by SafeWise, so you can feel confident strolling around historic downtown, trying out local restaurants, checking out the Riley Home & Museum, or shopping at local stores. You can dip in the Kathy Dowling Aquatics Center, explore Pennsy Trail, or have outdoor fun at Tuttle Orchards or Lark Ranch.

Apart from the recreational and cultural sites like Brandywine Park, Depot Street Park summer concert series, and the Hancock County Public Library, the city has a rich history, too. Greenfield was chosen as the county seat of Hancock County on April 11, 1828, and the county was named after John Hancock, the first signer of the Declaration of Independence. The James Whitcomb Riley statue in front of the Hancock County Courthouse is a must-see, and during the Riley Festival in October, the city's school children parade to the statue to place flowers around it.

Greenfield is a city that blends its small-town atmosphere with managed growth as part of the greater Indianapolis metropolitan area. Hancock County is the sixth fastest-growing county in the state of Indiana. In a letter to Helen Downing, James Whitcomb Riley described Greenfield as "My home and your home and your parent's home and the best home outside of heaven."
